What you’ll do

Known as the 'Festival of Lights', Diwali is one of India's major and most beautiful festivals. It symbolises the victory of light over darkness and hope over despair. You will learn the stories behind the festival and experience the full Diwali experience, from the food and family and friendship bonds to the soulful, sparkling celebrations and a sky full of fireworks. You will also learn to draw rangoli, vibrant floor art made of coloured powder, and light traditional clay oil lamps called diyas.

Experience the community celebrations too. Join in with house hopping to try seasonal delicacies that are only available at this time of year. Shine in the community by taking the lead on activities for Sangam’s community partners. From the distant sound of fireworks echoing across the Pune skyline to the quiet moment of igniting your own lamp, this event offers a soulful journey. It offers a unique opportunity to reflect on your own 'inner light' while surrounded by the warmth of a new international family.

This is a Sangam CULTURAL event.

The Sangam Experience

The core of the Sangam experience is built around active participation, community, and cultural discovery. This event incorporates various engaging sessions and activities designed to build confidence and encourage participants to feel at ease outside their comfort zone. This is balanced with deep cultural immersion, where participants learn about Indian traditions, culture and cuisine while exploring the vibrant streets of Pune.

World Centres Immersion

World Centres are vibrant hubs where Girl Guides, Girl Scouts and people from different backgrounds and cultures come together to connect, learn and feel empowered to build their agency. Offering adventure and international experiences, World Centres are primarily 'brave spaces' for leadership development, providing transformative experiences that break down cultural barriers and encourage personal connections.

Community Interaction

Sangam currently works with over 20 community partners which include local NGOs addressing a wide range of social issues, as well as local Guiding and Scouting units and schools in Pune. During this event, there will be an opportunity to interact with them in a reciprocal approach, either through a short observational visit or a few-hour engagement, or through one or more days of community action projects.
